eXpressions Program Description

Blue Sky Inn has maintained the eXpressions program since August 2003. Operating at two residential youth shelters and one community center, eXpressions connects an average of ten volunteers with 25 youth each week. eXpressions projects have included collage, painting, drawing, creative writing, photography, jewelry-making, bookmaking, printmaking, and origami.

Through this program, youth are given opportunities:

To create relationships with caring, compassionate adults in their community
To express themselves creatively in a safe environment
To visit and contribute to cultural performances and exhibits
To participate in positive, engaging activities

By participating in these sessions, volunteers are given opportunities:

To educate themselves and others about the homeless youth population in Chicago
To use their art, experiences and example to encourage and inspire the youth
To make an important contribution to their community
