Blue Sky Inn is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization established to provide educational, cultural and recreational activities to at-risk youth in Chicago. All of our work is carried out by trained, committed volunteers and takes place in homeless shelters and community centers throughout the city.
The youth in our programs are between the ages of fourteen and twenty-four. They have been affected by substance abuse, poverty, violence, abuse, neglect, mental health conditions, unstable housing, and economic and social injustice.
Blue Sky Inn exists to empower our youth to regain the opportunities and options that have been taken from them. We believe these young adults are entitled to fulfillment, stability, dignity and pride, and our programming will continuously grow and expand to achieve these goals. We hope you will join us in our mission to open doors for Chicago's very special, very important, underserved youth.
The kids at Blue Sky Inn bake a damn good muffin (really, we’ve tried it). The organization helps at-risk and homeless teens by employing them in a baked-goods and catering business. The org then sells the delicious treats the youths whip up, from banana muffins with mascarpone icing, white-chocolate-macadamia-nut cookies and cranberry-whole-wheat scones to a variety of sandwiches and side dishes. Enjoy them at your holiday party, or send some as a tasty gift.

The youths showed up, without fail, to the North Side rented kitchen at daybreak every Wednesday and Thursday this summer, ready to bake.
They assembled Caprese sandwiches for catering orders and mixed up batches of Cheddar chive scones and peanut butter oatmeal cookies. Then they sold the goodies at the Wicker Park and Printers Row farmers markets. It was rare if they didn't sell out.
At $7.50 an hour, it was a decent gig -- and all the more remarkable, considering the youths were homeless.
